What is a discovery flight?
Your opportunity to take the controls for the first time and live your dream of flying! 30 minutes of ground time with a knowledgeable instructor to cover the essentials of flight, then 30 minutes in the plane. You’ll get to help with everything from startup, taxi, takeoff, enroute and landing!
How much does it cost to get a private pilots license?
$11,000 – $16,000. The FAA has minimum hours that are required to earn a private pilot license. It is very rare for someone to accomplish this with only the minimum hours. The national average is 76 hours of flight time. Summit View Aviation students take their check ride with an average of 51 hours. With 51 hours of flight time, the needed ground instruction, a ground school course, the written test and the check ride fee a student would spend about $13,000.

Do I need my own plane?
Short answer, No!
Long answer, there are many ways of learning to fly. There is a plane rental at the Susanville airport (KSVE). Some people purchase a plane, learn to fly in it and then continue to fly it for years to come. Partnerships, clubs or groups is another way of getting into a plane.
